Today, Matt Prissel, Mitch Ogden and Jen Grant met to
discuss the direction of our classroom projects, and our CoP, for our 2012
spring semester. Matt, new to the CoP,
is deploying the Illustrated Novel Mastery Project in his organic chemistry
class. This is an amazing opportunity to use the illustrated novel is a core
course. He shared with us his plans for helping his students develop their
novels over the semester. This led to a discussion of how this type of visual
project can be really
Mitch, who
teaches the fiction-to-film course, has been having his students create a
graphic novel that’s adapted to a larger project within the course, a project
that utilizes different media. Mitch has a great grasp of the power of
narrative, and the processes involved in original writing. We discussed how his
project evolved over the course of last semester, and new thoughts he has had
in terms of implementing it over this semester.
Jen,
who implemented the illustrated novel project in a linked learning community
last semester, discussed transformation of her project from an add-on final
assignment into a mastery project that encourages students to make connections
between different chapters in the course textbook. Jen was also interested in
discussing how important it is to really consider assessment tools, like
surveys.
